Barbra Esther Namuli — an Investments Officer — has been a SafeBoda customer since May 2018 and has taken over 2,134 trips to-date! We caught up with her and this is her story.

What prompted you to start using SafeBoda?

It saved me from bargaining. I have very little patience to convince a rider to take me for a fair price. I know what is fair because I’ve tried to do the math for a motorbike expense.

I was fed up with being ripped off and called cheap. Then I also considered safety-there was a helmet and a rider accountable to someone. That for me is one of the reasons that is keeping me here

As a lady, what makes SafeBoda your first choice?

I know that the man riding me is accountable to someone, not just God — to whom most of us will disregard in moments when our greed makes the best of us.

I know that even if this rider decided to do nothing malicious, I have someone that can call his actions out, and I know that because of that he will be deterred from doing the worst to me because he has seen that the people he accounts to actually follow up vigilantly.

How has the SafeBoda app made your daily life simpler?

The ride picks me up from my home and drops me off at work usually, and that’s within the shortest time possible for transit considering the two locations.

I don’t have to worry about bargaining with four boda guys just to find one that will take me for a fair price. I do away with the inconvenience of taxis and some of the pains of our transit system.

Any interesting stories or SafeBoda experiences you may have that you can share?

First, one of the female riders rode me and being the women we are, the conversation was so rich!

Besides the stories of the riders which are funny on a good day, Safeboda has delivered everything from panties to dressed chicken for me.

My mum used to sell chicken and one day I locked in an order of four dressed chicken at 1pm for delivery at 4pm as the consumer was leaving town for their country home! I panicked, thinking how poorly the client had planned, but I still had to deliver because I wanted to make the sale.

So from my desk I called home, asked that they, in the shortest time possible, choose the biggest chicken, dress it clean, and call me when ready. At 3pm the rider was ready to bring the chicken to the client and he delivered it safely. All this happened under 4 phone calls and minimum stress.

What, in your view, does SafeBoda represent?

Safe, Affordable and Quick Public Transport.

People will argue about the level of exposure of a motor bike, but when those three variables are placed together. A SafeBoda is your only option in this city!

That one SafeBoda wish you have always had?

I wish we could get car rides. Because honestly, over the weekend I don’t fancy showing up to a wedding on a SafeBoda and the available options are a pain.
