Every June 30th is World Social Media Day, created by Mashable as a way of recognizing the impact that social media has had on communications around the world, as well as bringing people together to celebrate.

This 2022, being a brand built on online communities, SafeBoda organized a mini-conference as a way to recognize social media’s impact on Ugandan communication and to bring various stakeholders together to discuss the day.

The mini-conference brought together various digital voices and personas that are actively involved in the day-to-day running of social media in Uganda to discuss the trends and best practices and how to shape the future of the industry.

The event was held at Design Hub Kampala, under the theme: Evolving trends & best practices for Social Media today. Emerging talent & techniques that are shaping the digital marketing industry in Uganda.

The conversation

The discussion was headlined by seasoned professionals including Robert Sebunya, who presented best practices on new trends in the digital era for social impact under the moderation of Joy Akatukunda.

Robert emphasized the importance of building social media presence, a process which requires putting in extra effort and investment — especially in certification. He also called upon the digital marketers to take on collaboration with industry peers as a priority, rather than opting for individual achievements.

Another exciting presentation was by Moses Kiboneka, popularly known as Uncle Mo, who made a presentation on Influencer marketing, moderated by Ssuna Ronald. The conversation revolved around content creation, decision making, and exploration of one’s talent.

Uncle Mo stressed the need for content creators to focus more on innovation and growing their value rather than seeking quick earnings. To this, he re-echoed the purpose of collaboration for idea generation and productive feedback.

The third and final presentation was by Elizabeth Tendo on new forms of partnerships and customer segmentation, with Mathias Ssemanda moderating. The two dug deep into how and when brands can collaborate digitally, as well as the occasions that only accommodate competition.

The event concluded with a series of engagements and side discussions among the attendees alongside snacks and drinks. With this, SafeBoda’s brick to the Ugandan digital marketing industry was fully added.

On to the next one!
