The mention of ‘Rolex’ rings a bell in almost every locality in and around Kampala. The tasty street food is now a household name because of the simplicity that it comes with. This is on top of being cheap, quick to prepare, handheld, nourishing, and satisfying.

At UGX 2,000, the Rolex has moved from being a snack to becoming a meal loved by everyone. Having grown to form a central part of Uganda’s food culture, the success story of this simple yet delicious bite revolves around the aspect of a community.

A growing Rolex community

From the poultry farm that delivers the eggs that make the omelette, to the retail shop, market vendor, or grocery supplier that delivers the ingredients; from the chef that delivers the meal to the customer that enjoys it — the community is vast.

Multiply this community effect in every part of the country, and you’ll find the Rolex everywhere. It’s a daily meal worth having with friends on any occasion. Yet, every Rolex lover has a unique interest.

Some love it with nyanya mbisi, a fresh raw tomato slice, while others love all the ingredients baked in there. Some crave it served with sauce and pepper, while others love it plain and dry without any additions.

The increase in the unique demand has created broader experimentation of how better it can taste. Many fast-food restaurants now have the Rolex as part of the daily menu, giving customers a wide variety to choose from. You will find one filled with sausages, bacon, chicken, beef, cheese, avocado, mayonnaise, and even gravy.

The Rolex Festival

As a brand built on the backbone of the community, SafeBoda is proud to be part of the 2022 Rolex Festival, an event organized by the Rolex Initiative to promote the Rolex as the national meal identifier for Uganda.

The annual celebration brings revellers to taste various Rolex recipes incorporated with local and international recipes, such as Chicken Rolex, Beef Rolex, and Vegetable, among many others.

This year’s edition is on 21st August at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, and you can get there with a SafeBoda app at the most affordable prices.
