Year Review: SafeBoda’s 21 wins in 2021

2021 has been such a long year. One would easily call it amazing, if we were to count out the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on business operations. However, we consider it fairly done and are grateful for the wins achieved through the 12 months.

At SafeBoda, there’s been a lot we can acknowledge as success. Here, we are listing the 21 wins that the company has registered ‌this past year.

Safe-Health campaign

In Uganda, SafeBoda partnered with the Ministry of Health, UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) and Rocket Health, to launch the Safe-Health campaign, which would make health care accessible at the tap of a button.

The partnership involved and included pharmacies around Kampala to provide a comprehensive range of health products on the SafeBoda app, allowing customers to conveniently access health care.

Foundation of the E-trade Association

SafeBoda joined the E-trade Association of Uganda, a body bringing together companies & organizations that use the power of the internet to drive job creation in the country. It consists of some of the most innovative companies bringing employment and attracting investment to Uganda.

No longer a baby, SafeBoda turned 6 years old.

Every Spring finds us in ‌celebratory moods and, as you might have already guessed, 6 was the magical number this year. To commemorate 6 years of operations, we launched a Museum at the SafeBoda Academy showcasing our history & memorable milestones.

Partnership with Flutterwave

SafeBoda partnered with Flutterwave to work on the SafeBoda Wallet, a feature on the SafeBoda app that makes it easier for Nigerian users to pay electronically for services rendered. We now chill with big boys like BigWiz, huh!!

The wallet has since improved the experience for both users and riders while making paying and accepting payment for rides or deliveries a lot more seamless.

TotalEnergies Partnership

Uganda faced one of the highest fuel prices, challenging expenses in transportation. At SafeBoda, we decided to partner with TotalEnergies to offer discounts to customers as well as SafeBoda drivers that purchase fuel using their SafeBoda app.

We keep giving our customers a better way at everything. 🧡

Food donation to over 3000 drivers

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and amid another lockdown that kept business at a standstill in the middle of the year, SafeBoda — in partnership with Yuvraj TVS — provided food supplies to over 3,000 of its drivers at the SafeBoda Academy.

Customer Service Week

As part of the global customer service week celebrations from 4th to 8th October, 2021, under the theme; “The Power of Service!”. SafeBoda ‌showcased the importance of customer service and of the people who serve and support customers on a daily basis.

#FennaTugemebwe partnership

SafeBoda joined hands with Uganda Breweries and other stakeholders on a mass vaccination campaign dubbed ‘Fenna Tugemebwe’ that sought to have the target population of 4.8 million people fully vaccinated to aid the reopening of the economy. We just didn’t stop at that. Continue reading..

Vaccination at the SafeBoda Academy

To support the full reopening of the economy and other sectors that have been under lockdown, SafeBoda held a series of vaccination campaigns at the Academy, where flocks of drivers, community members, and citizens from other parts of the city came in to receive their jabs.

New Nigerian office in Bodija

The Nigerian team acquired a new office and much larger space to accommodate an Academy in Bodija, Ibadan.

Road Safety with Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)

The safety of our employees, customers and the communities at large is essential to us. That’s why we partnered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to organize a sensitization program to educate our drivers on the need to observe all traffic rules while driving. The program focused on educating motorcycle riders on road safety practices, which will essentially reduce road accidents.

10,000 Nigerian drivers

The community in Ibadan saw the registration of the 10,000th driver to continue serving a vibrant and growing market in Ibadan.

SafePosta Express

2021 was almost all about partnerships! Posta Uganda also partnered with SafeBoda to jointly launch a product called “SafePosta Express”.

The new service will utilize the already existing SafeBoda App, which sits on over 1,000,000 smartphones, to enable customers to request delivery services from the convenience of their homes and offices.

7 weeks of cashless joy

We partnered with Galaxy 100.2 FM, Coca-Cola, and Yo Kuku! To reward loyal customers across 7 consecutive festive season weeks. All the customers had to do was to transact with their SafeBoda Wallet to be rewarded every week.

20,000 daily rides

The community in Nigeria also registered a milestone of 20,000 daily rides this year, a feat that the Kampala community would beat too, a few weeks later.

Top customer/Influencer get-together

Just before the year ended, we brought together some of our top performing customers and social media influencers for a get-together moment at Kenji’s restaurant.

Here, everyone invited walked away with a gift hamper and customized helmet to keep them safe when traveling with SafeBoda.

Partnership with Oyo NYSC

SafeBoda Nigeria also partnered with the Oyo State arm of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), in a partnership that seeks to establish SafeBoda as a recognized means of transportation for corps members in and around Ibadan, Oyo, Nigeria.

Pay Merchant Launch

We officially launched the Pay Merchant feature at various vendors and Merchant points across Kampala to enable customers to easily make payments with their SafeBoda Wallet and get rewarded with discounts and free products. It’s a cashless experience all through.

3 million rides in Nigeria

There is no better way to wrap up this than to mention that SafeBoda registered a cumulative number of 3 million rides in Ibadan alone. This is in less than two years of operations in the city.

First beneficiary of Google’s Africa Investment Fund

And as the year came to a close, Google announced SafeBoda as the first beneficiary of the $50 million Africa Investment Fund.
